چکیده

Fouling of the inside of tubes in crude oil preheat systems increases pressure drop and pumping costs. In this paper, a method is proposed for optimizing crude oil velocity to reduce fouling of the heat exchanger tubes thereby maintaining heat transfer rates and reducing pressure drop. A simulated annealing algorithm is proposed to describe and optimize the interactions between heat transfer, pressure drop and fouling by adjusting fluid velocity. A specific crude oil heating system is used as a case study to verify the application of the algorithm. Results from case study showed that total annual cost is reduced by 6.4%, indicating that a better performance can be obtained by velocity redistribution using proposed method. © 2015 Elsevier Ltd. Application of Threshold Model with Various Tube Wall Temperatures for Crude Oil Preheat Train Fouling

The Propose of this paper is to introduce a new model for crude oil fouling in preheat trains of crude distillation unit. The experimental results of Australian light crude oil with the tube side surface temperatures between 200-260 oC and fluid velocity ranged 0.25 to 0.4m/s were used. The activation energy of chemical reaction depends on the surface temperature has been calcula...

An Industrial Case Study on Retrofitting Heat Exchangers and Revamping Preheat Trains Subject to Fouling

Crude refinery preheat trains (PHTs) are a major part of a refining process as these units reduce the amount of thermal energy required to heat the crude oil to its distillation temperature. Fouling is a longstanding problem in the operation of PHTs; the ability of a refinery to process different crude blends or to increase its production capacity depends on the thermal and hydraulic performanc...

Fouling of Some Canadian Crude Oils

A thermal fouling study was undertaken using three sour Canadian crude oils. Experiments were carried out in a recirculation fouling loop, equipped with an annular (HTRI) electrically heated probe. Fluids at pressures of about 10001340 kPa under a nitrogen atmosphere were re-circulated at a velocity of 0.75 m/s for periods of 48 hours, and the decline in heat transfer coefficient followed under...

A Review on Crude Oil Fouling and Mitigation Methods in Pre-heat Trains of Iranian Oil Refineries

Crude oil fouling of the equipment surfaces is a troublesome issue which leads to operating difficulties, economic penalties, increased environmental impacts, and health and safety hazards in petroleum industry. With a rough estimation, a minimum cost of equal to 4 million barrels of oil/year is required to be invested to offset the costs of crude oil fouling in Pre-heat Trains of Iranian oil r...

An Minlp Formulation for Scheduling the Cleaning of Heat Exchanger Networks Subject to Fouling and Ageing

Fouling is an age-old problem in many process industries. It is responsible for large energy and throughput losses, resulting in financial penalties and negative environmental impact. One effective mitigation strategy is the regular cleaning of fouled heat transfer devices. Optimization tools can be used to schedule the timing of cleaning actions in order to minimize the cost of fouling and imp...
